Do you have pet-friendly pest control?

Question: Are your methods safe for household pets?
Question: We were told by the original person who came to see what service we need that we would have to be out of the house a minimum of four hours, that our cats had to be out too, and that our fish probably wouldn’t make it. I just wanted to make sure that what he said is true.
ANSWER: You do NOT have to be out of the house, the pets need only be kept from treated surfaces until they (the surfaces) are dry … and cover the fish tanks/bowls.
Pesticides for household insects are designed to be applied at low concentrations, usually less than 1 percent. These concentrations are high enough to be effective in killing small insects, but pose no threat to people or pets.
Generally, the droplet size of household application equipment is large enough so that the material does not remain in the air for very long and there is little opportunity for exposure through breathing. Treated surfaces usually dry quickly, so there is little chance for exposure from them. The residue that remains on the surface will be toxic to insects, but presents no threat to people. It usually does not last very long, but long enough for the target insects to contact it and die.
The best strategy to keep pets safe is to keep them off any treated surface until it is dry, and this may take 1-2 hours. Your Kill A Bug Pest Specialist will perform the service in the safest manner possible and follow all the label directions regarding the application of the materials. These services, which are backed by science, have been custom developed to meet your needs.

Bed Bugs

How to identify Bed Bugs
Appearance
Bed bugs are flat, reddish-brown, oval insects up to 4 to 5 mm long or the size of an apple seed. Swollen and reddish after a blood meal.
Behavior, Diet & Habits
Bed bugs only feed on blood. Under cool conditions, bed bugs have been able to survive up to a year without a meal. They prefer to be more active at night when the host is asleep.
Bed bugs are found in cracks and crevices, including mattress seams, sheets, furniture, behind baseboards, electrical outlet plates and picture frames. Often found in hotels, where they can travel from room to room and in visitors’ luggage or other personal belongings such as purses and briefcases.
Signs of a Bed Bug Infestation
1 Seeing the bugs. Adult bed bugs are about the shape and size of an apple seed.
2 Case skins. As the juvenile bugs grow, they shed their skins, discovery of which can indicate their presence.
3 Defecation. After feeding, bed bugs return to their harborage to hide where they defecate black to brown stains on porous surfaces or black to brown mounds on nonporous surfaces.
4 Bites also may indicate bed bug activity, but further signs will need to be found, since other sources can cause red welts on the skin.

How do you get Bed Bugs?
You can pick up bed bugs almost anywhere — offices, stores, hotels and gyms for starters. They’re great at hiding and have been known to hitchhike in luggage, personal belongings or even you. Once indoors, they can be very difficult to control without the help of an experienced pest specialist. You can reduce your chances of a costly bed bug infestation by catching them early.
Tips
  • Remove all clutter from your home, which makes finding bed bugs easier.
  • Wash and dry your bed linens on the hottest temperature permitted.
  • Closely inspect any second-hand furniture before bringing it in your home.
  • Inspect your home after moving, trips, service calls or overnight guests.
How serious are Bed Bugs?
Reproduction
Females can deposit one to five eggs a day, and may lay 200 to 500 eggs in a Bed Bug’s lifetime. Under normal room temperatures and with an adequate food supply, they can live for more than 300 days.
Bed Bugs and Disease
It is possible that Bed Bugs can carry diseases, however, they are not known to transmit diseases to people.
Bed Bug Bites
Bed Bugs feed exclusively on blood, and people have various responses to Bed Bug Bites.

Identify Cockroaches

How to identify Cockroaches?

Appearance
Cockroaches can measure over 50 mm (2 in) length, with tropical species tending to be larger than those found in other climates. Cockroaches have six legs, two antennae and some have wings. However, most winged cockroaches are not particularly adept at flying.

Cockroach Facts

Cockroaches belong to Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Arthropoda, Class Insecta and Order Blattaria. Some species invade human dwellings and are considered pests. Others are beneficial to the environment as important recyclers of decaying organic material. The pest cockroaches can be carriers of various diseases because they are commonly found near waste deposits or in the kitchen, where food is present. Restaurants may also experience cockroach infestations. Cockroaches emit unpleasant odors.

Cockroaches can wreak havoc on your home. To win the war in cockroach control, here’s what you should know:
  • Entry: Cockroaches can enter your home in many different ways, from the outside through cracks and crevices, vents, sewer and drain pipes. We even bring them in on products like grocery bags, boxes, purses and on our person!
  • Ideal environment: Your home is an ideal breeding ground for certain pest species of cockroaches. With plenty of food, warmth, water and nesting sites, they can remain active all year round.
  • Reproduction: Cockroaches reproduce quickly. For every one you see there can be many, many more hiding and multiplying behind your walls.
  • Evasiveness: Because cockroaches typically are nocturnal, if you’ve seen one, you probably haven’t seen them all. The few cockroaches you see by day could mean they were likely forced out by overcrowding; a possible sign of severe infestation.
  • Allergies/Asthma: The debris created by cast-off cockroach skins, dead bodies and droppings can aggravate allergies, especially in children and sensitive individuals.
  • Do-it-yourself ineffectiveness: Cockroaches are better at hiding than you are at finding them, and their eggs are naturally protected from many over-the-counter insecticides. Without special equipment, materials and know-how, cockroach control can be a losing battle.

Can Crickets tell temperature

Question: Can Crickets Really Tell You the Temperature Outside?
Male crickets "chirp" for multiple reasons including warning off predators and attracting female mates. But the sound of the actual chirp is due to a hard rigid structure on one of the wings. When rubbed together with the other wing, this is the distinctive chirp you hear at night.
But can crickets really indicate outside temperatures?
Answer:
Yes! Anyone outside at night listening to crickets “sing” can determine the outside temperature with a small math problem.
First, count the number of chirps a cricket makes in 15 seconds. Record this number or remember it.
Next, add 37 to the number you wrote down.
That’s it! You now have a good estimate of the temperature outside in Fahrenheit!
The idea was first studied by A. E. Dolbear in 1898. He systematically studied various species of crickets to determine their "chirp rate" based on temperatures. Using T for temperature in degrees Fahrenheit and N for number of chirps, Dolbear published his results in the form of an equation - T=50+[(N-40)/4] This equation for cricket chirping is now known as Dolbear's Law.

The Benefits of Pest Control Service

It is common to see rodents, ants, spiders, and other critters in homes. Each of these diverse types of pests can trigger a different kind of hazard either to the health of family members or to the building structure. At times, the threat is for both. Therefore, it is essential to keep a look on the presence of these critters as well as get rid of them through proper, safe, and effective measures.

One of the commonly used measures is using one of the several DIY products. However, this can involve much risk if the instructions are not followed, the consequences are not known, and if the handling of chemical products do not happen safety. A much better option is the professional pest control management that takes up all the responsibility to keep your home clean and protected from all critters. Here are some benefits of having a professional pest control system.

Less Usage of Harmful Pesticides

Householders are more likely to use inapt pesticides or insecticides than professionals are. This is because many of them end up using the DIY products. However, this risk is eliminated upon using the professional pest control service, as the latter is aware of when and how to use the pest control treatments.

While a householder may lack the complete knowledge, the service provider has all the essential knowledge to ensure a safe and clean pest control. Moreover, it will never ever directly use the harmful pesticides in case the organic solution tends to work effectively.

Versatility

Even if a householder has some experience in dealing with critters, it might be restricted to only a few ones. For example, while a householder can deal with ants and mice, it might not be possible to deal with termites. However, a professional service has the right solution for tackling all kinds of pests, including bees, termites, bugs, and more.

Permanent Solution

If you go to control the pests on your own with some prior experience, chances are high that you might be successful in doing so. However, there is no guarantee that the pests will not enter your home again. Well, this is not the case with a pest control provider. A professional pest control approach ensures not only quick removal of critters but also non-occurrence of the issue. Yes, it ensures that the problem never arises again.

Time and Money Saving

A professional pest control approach involves trained personnel who knows when and how to use the pest control products on time, which is simply the best prevention methodology. A scheduled treatment on time through a pro saves a lot of time in getting rid of pests.

Moreover, you also save money by investing in a pro pest control service. Many pests such as bugs are becoming highly resistant to insecticides and pesticides. Therefore, it is obvious that the new chemical-based treatments would be stronger and consequently costlier, which are anyways going to be hazardous for your health apart from those of the pests. This is certainly not a good deal. On the other hand, a pest control system features the safest as well as most effective methods of dealing with pests permanently.

Info on Rodents

If you're a homeowner, sooner or later you're almost sure to be faced with the prospect of rodent control. Mice and rats are drawn to human domiciles because of warm, comfortable living spaces and easy food sources. As a result, it's a rare home that doesn't experience rodent infestation in one form or another. The key is knowing how to spot the presence of rodents and, in turn, knowing how to get rid of them.
Why Worry?
There are a number of reasons you should keep tabs on whether rodents are making themselves comfortable in your home. First and foremost, they are proven disease carriers. Be it the lethal hanta virus or salmonella poisoning, rodents and their feces are a prime carrier of diseases that can easily jump to the human population. Beyond that, keep in mind that your average house mouse reaches maturity in 8 weeks and will produce 8 litters a year of 4-8 pups. Multiply that by a few breeding pairs and it's easy to see how mice can easily take over your home if you don't take the initiative to remove them from the premises.
How Do I Spot Them?
Spotting mice and rats in your home is relatively easy. Keep an eye out for small holes chewed in walls, cabinets, and other materials where mice might travel. Also, monitor your food supply for gnawed corners on cereal boxes and other cardboard receptacles. Believe it or not, these mice usually aren't looking for food. Instead, they're using the chewed up cardboard and paper products to build nests for their litters. Finally, the most prominent signal that you need to invest in rodent control strategies is the tell tale sign of mice and rat droppings. Be it in your silverware drawer, cabinets, pantry or garage, the presence of small, cylindrical pellets are a sure-fire sign you've got a problem.
